Throughout his campaign for the White House, Trump has taken controversial stances on immigration , repeatedly proposing to build a wall at the Mexican border.

“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you,” he said in June.

“They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us.

“They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists.”

During his career, Durán formed part of legendary quartet of middleweight fighters during the eighties.

Bouts between him, Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas ‘Hitman’ Hearns and Marvin Hagler provided the division with its greatest era in boxing.

Durán laid down his challenge to Trump as he promoted the Robert De Niro film “Hands of Stone” which charts the boxer’s life.

It is due out on August 26.
